We use a standalone BAS (no round robin or pool) and we can't send messages via email from the BAS console. Do we need to install CDO on the BAS to get that going?

Just out of curiousity edwintg were you also running BAS services on the HA BESs? Do you have DNS round robin for the two BAS instances (and if running on BES those as well)?

Offline GAL from MSE. We've had some issues with this. I've been able to fix not finding users by restarting the mail store service on BES but that's a hatchet fix.

I'd echo penguins post but if you have a standalone BAS as we do you might want to upgrade it first if it's a service pack or you can wind up breaking your BAS due to the database schema changing.
