I have agreed to help a client install BES for Groupwise but I'm an Exchange person and know nothing about Groupwise.
I'm just rerading through the install guide and all the hardware pre-reqs are OK.

No BESadmin account is needed is that right?

The other things that are different are the Key Generator Application and the Groupwise client which needs to be installed on the BES; am I right?

There will be a Groupwise administrator there so hopefully I will be able to manage.

Now when it all goes wrong, what log will be the best to look in for errors?
I'm used to the MAGT log, is that there too on Groupwise?

Any advice is appreciated.

You'll generate a trusted app key for the GW client to use on the BES which sorta takes place of the BESadmin acct. Make sure your GW client and the post office vers are the same. There is indeed a MAGT log so you're good there.

You can choose between SOAP and OAPI. SOAP is faster on PIM changes and reads/unreads but can take a little more setup on the PO side. OAPI might be safer for the first install, you can always switch to SOAP later.

Unlike Exchange GWBES starts to run into some performance issues above 500 users.

As it says in the docs, make sure you set services to manual after you install BES so you can get the maintenance releases on there prior to going into production.
