Default firewall settings

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have just installed a sonicwall firewall device and a couple of users are trying to register their blackberrys again but it is failing. We do not use a BES server in this site so usually they register their blackbarrys with their ISP provider and then can get their work emails.

The registration looks like it is getting blocked by the firewall. When I do a whois, I can see it's a blackberry address but it changes. Does anyone know the correct ports and network address I need to configure and open on the firewall to allow the devices to activate properly?

Cheers,
Oli

If you don't have a BES, the users are using BIS (Blackberry Internet Service). With this service, users can get their mail either through POP3 or IMAP. So you have to open up the appropriate ports for this on the firewall.

Use this KB if you want to restrict the open ports to just BIS traffic-

KB11036-Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Internet Service
