Default something I noticed in the battery compartment of my Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I was doing a routine battery pull yesterday and I noticed that the battery compartment was turning a redish color like tarnish and it smells kind of burnt in there.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Or do I have a device going bad?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I have never noticed such a thing. How does the battery look? Is it bulging? And kind of leak?
Is the residue stick or dry?

Why would a battery pull be routine?

its not so much as residue as it is tarnish. I remember when I got it everything was shiny and silver. No the Battery isnt buldging it doesnt get hot either.

And to the other posted the memory leak issue is the reason for a routine battey pull. I know its not something others have to do but us Pearl folks do.

"Why would a battery pull be routine?"

Very routine for me as well with the memory leak problem. I try and do it once a day, but sometimes I forget and let it slide a two to three days.

Can you not download the soft reset so you don't have to pull the battery?

Get the program SoftReset. That way you don't need to pull the battery for the memory leak issue.

A battery pull reset is not just a Pearl issue, but any device with 4.2 or greater OS. It was first noticed on the 8100 Pearls because they were the first to sport that version OS.

Since I start having leak problems, I set my blackberry to turn off at 5:52 am and turn on 5:54 am and since then I haven't had to pull the battery nor reset the device troughout the day :D

Very cool idea.

Options > Auto On/Off.

However, a battery pull and reboot will do a good bit more.
