Apparently after I did some reading the newer model Verizon BB's come with the TCP stack (apn settings) set out of the box. You should be set up correctly, that is however why I believe you're having this problem, you can't set them yourself I don't believe.

Do you have an option to change things in:
options > advanced options > tcp ?

I will say this:

Anything to do with billing and Verizon can be bad.
Verizon likes to charge to say hi!
that's why I dumped them long ago.

There is no TCP under advanced options. There is Applications, Browser, Broswer Push, Enterprise Activation, Host Routing Table, Message Services, and Service Book.

I tried Message Services but there is nothing there.

There are options under Ramble IM. Network Connection says "Use device default", "Use MDS TCP", and "Use Device TCP". The default is the one currently being used.

Then TOC Host & Port says : toc.orscar.aol.com:8080

I have a BB 8703e with Verizon and we verizon users CANNOT modify TCP/IP settings and according to 2 CS reps they do not support TCP/IP nor ramble or approve of us using such programs. I had ramble and have since moved to yak on but this month my text seems over the top too...

That's horrible. No other carrier charges Ramble, Yak-on, any IM clients for SMS. It's all data therefore should go towards your unlimited data plan. I would suggest dropping Verizon if this is the case if you can as you are being screwed, to put it bluntly.

My wife has verizon 8703e and runs Ramble IM on it for 2 months. No texts are being charged to her account and ramble im uses data, not text. Case closed!

I have VZW 8703e and Ramble IM
There are options under Ramble IM.
Network Connection options are "Use device default", "Use MDS TCP", and "Use Device TCP".
Set on "Use Device TCP"
TOC Host & Port says : toc.orscar.aol.com:8080

So this should be text msg unit free as it data, correct?

I'm on the boat that says these services use DATA trust me I'm not arugeing otherwise but IN MY CASE (Just me) I've got these excessive SMS counts that just do not seem right. Especially since I email non verizon users via teleflip!

or on the flip
Maybe SINCE we can't change the TCP/IP money hungry verizon HAS found a way to screw us. They're quite good at it.

Irregardless Ramble etc do use data case closed in that regard!

Wirelessly posted (7130e: BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I have Verizon with the 7130e and have never been charged for text messages for ramble. You must be sending sms or possible have some kind of alerts set up on your account but it definitely wasn't ramble.

SRA designed the program to use only data... therefore, if Verizon is charging you using text messages, then they are violating the software agreement of Ramble because of the fact that they are changing the software to make themselves a profit, and I'm sure that it is a case that would hold up well in court against Verizon.

As far as I know, Ramble was not designed to use text messages, therefore it should, in its stock, unaltered form, not be able to even aceess text messaging on your BB. It uses strictly data. Now, if you had GSM and used CSD (which current Blackberries don't have out of the box) then they could charge you minutes, but indirectly because you need to dial up to get access. But as far as using "high speed" access (not dial-up) that is all that Ramble is supported on right now, as far as my BB goes.

Once again, I was billed 481 text messages. The ONLY EXPLANATION for this is Ramble IM is charging each and every IM sent or received as a text message. When I called Verizon ( 4 seperate times ) I was told by each tech that Verizon charges IM's as text messages. I understand it is "data", however Verizon is saying otherwise. If someone else can explain where 481 text messages would be comming from that would totally change my opinion. Being that I only sent about 50 text messages over the month, that is the only explanation!

What all counts as text messages? Do emails count as text messages? I don't believe they do, as that is the unlimited data part. What else would possibly count as text messages? I was told voicemails dont count, even though it sends a message notification to the folder......

Ok basically, what I am saying is that Verizon has no idea that Ramble is sending IM's, they don't know what program is sending out data through the gateway, just that there is data going through it. Therefore, Verizon would not know that your Ramble program is sending out IM's, just that it is transmitting data. It is very possible that your VM indicator runs off of text messages, or something is incorrectly provisioned allowing them to bill you in such a way.

Do you really thing Verizon knows what they are talking about? Listen to this:

Putfile - Verizon Bad Math

Then, drop Verizon and get anyone else. They don't really know what they are talking about in this case and in most cases (I used to sell Verizon, and quit once I found out how idiotic the whole company is).

They told me the Voicemail indicator is not counting as text messages. But even if it was, I did not have 431 voice mails!

Understood, but what I'm saying is that it could be something you aren't even aware of, incorrectly provisioned on your account. Get in touch with Verizon and let them know that you are not stupid and that if they do not know that data is not text messages, that you will escalate the matter until it is resolved.

As you can see, i have beef with Verizon on many levels haha.
