Ramble IM counts as TXT?!?!?!?!?!?!
Please Login to Remove!
I'm on VERIZON network and just found out Ramble IM's count as TXT messages! I thought it was part of unlimited data plan!
That is absolutely miserable. Everytime I blink I have to upgrade things on this just to be able to use the functions I need!
Might have to go back to a regular phone and just pay the $30/month with Tmobile for the SK3 and have unlimited AIM and everything.

Ramble should be using data, you should not be charged for text messages using it. Have you spoken with Verizon?

Whether it is text or not, you have a strong argument about not knowing. If you commit to a text plan and scream a bit, I'm pretty sure they will work with you. If it gets worse, e-mail the execs. It can work sometimes. I did it with Sprint.

Right, I'm not worried about getting "credited" on the bill. I know that can be done easily. I'm just saying the fact I have to pay for a larger text message plan to cover all my IM usage! I'm on AIM 24/7 all day long.
I just called back and verified with a tech support, and they said each IM sent or received counts as a text message!
That is crazy!

I can guarantee you that Ramble uses data. Their tech support obviously doesn't know what you're talking about nor should they since they don't support it.

Well how do I be certain? Because it said on my bill I used 481 text messages, and that is not possible unless Ramble IM's are counting!
Thats what leads me to believe they are correct.

What you are reading on your bill is the combination of both incoming and outgoing. Though it states both I believe you're only being billed for outgoing though you may want to check with Verizon on that. It is not possible for ramble IM's to be charged as texts as they are sent differently than text messages. Please trust me on this.

On Verizon network, you are charged for both incomming and outgoing. They stressed on the phone you are billed for both sending and receiving.
I definitely trust you Paul, I'm just trying to cover the facts. My bill showed 481 text messages, and I may of sent 50 total text messages. The only other thing I can think of is the Ramble IM's! Where else would the other 400 messages come from?
Do you see what I'm saying?

I wish it could be done easily. I had to fight with Sprint for days and hours for their mistakes. I'm assuming that other companies are more logical.

I unsderstand you on that, I would call them back and tell them that you only sent maybe a total of 50 text messages then. I'm not quite sure where the other 430 came from but I can guarantee it wasn't Ramble. If they ask if you're using any kind of IM service inform them that you are but it goes through your data service via APN configuration.

Ramble uses 100% data, no text messaging, at all.
You must be using text messages to get SMSes on your account, as Ramble doesnt use text messages.

Other AIM programs have been designed to use text messages to transmit messages, perhaps you have used one of these in the past?

I agree. I think you need to double-check that. My wife has the 8700g through tmobile and I have the 8700c through cingular. we both use ramble IM heavily (we're both Deaf) and we have the unlimited data plan... never been charged for txt messages through ramble. If you are using Oz - they do use txt (sms) messages and that is what will eat you.

I spoke with Verizon several more times, and according to them, Ramble DOES count as TXT messages. At least through them they do. I explained numerous times it uses Data, but they said not through them. They said they recommend contacting Ramble directly and asking if there is a setting on the program or phone? Its the 8703e from Verizon.
But after hours of phone calls to Verizon and Data support, the bottom line is that Verizon does charge you txt messages for every IM sent or received through Ramble!

Wow, that's rediculous. I wouldn't be surprised if you were the only one Verizon was doing this to. Did you go over your APN settings? I find this entirely impossible.

Sorry, not sure how to go over my APN Settings. Maybe you can explain that process to me. Like I said in an above post, there is no other explanation why my bill showed 481 text messages. Its obvious that ramble counts. They confirmed that via (4) seperate phone calls today speaking with (4) seperate people. I don't know what to do in this situation!
