Standby will lock the keypad.
It saves battery life.
For example, I put it into standby when I g to bed.
It will notify me of calls/messages (If I leave on normal profile, not if on silent); and it will usually not have dropped a single percentage of battery in about 8 hours.

Wirelessly posted

I love standby. Saves battery. Won't pocket dial. Easy one button locking.

yes, but its good practise to keylock it first, coz it can occasionanly press buttons putting it into the holster

I read the posts above, but do not understand how "standby" is different than "keyboard lock." Don't I get all of the same benefits by locking the keyboard?

standby is great, but I never use it. I have chargers everywhere I go...lol. I have docking pads for my Bold at work, at home, a charger in the car, and extra one I carry around if I go to my folks home. Its a great feature to have if you where taking a trip in the air, especially if you have a tone of apps that need data to pull info off the network consistently, then yes, this saves the phone from dying on you.

No. Locking the keyboard does just that. locks the keyboard, keeps the phone running.
standby is like putting you tv into standby, it reduces the amount of power it is using.
so yes although standby will effectively keylock, standby SAVES BATTERY.

i.e. go to bed, have 90% battery, put in standby. wake up 8 hours later and STILL have 90%.
