Default BB Curve 8320 (TMO) WPA/WPA2 Question

Please Login to Remove!

So I currently have a Blackberry Pearl (8100) with T-Mobile and love it, but don't get very good coverage at my house... I started salivating when I found out that the curve was coming out with WiFi so that I can use it with their hotspot@home service... my only concern is whether or not it'll work with my current network.

I'm running a WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware and WPA2 security. I talked to the people at the T-Mobile store and they didn't even know what WPA was. I also tried calling T-Mobile tech support but they didn't know either. I know that the new 8820 is supposed to have WPA2 support, but whenever I do a web search for "Blackberry wifi" all the results I get are for the 8820. Does anyone know what sort of security protocols this new phone will support? I'd like to be able to use my existing WiFi network, but I guess if need be I can get another router to run in parallel with my other one, but I'd like to use the equipment I already have if I can.

I guess if all else fails I'll know once the curve comes out, but the days don't seem to be passing quickly enough! I want this phone!!! Unfortunately my house is a cell phone dead spot for all carriers, but I have 4mb cable, so running it over wifi would be ideal. Any info about this would be much appreciated!

The 8320 should be able to support the following types of wireless security:

WEP, Pre-Shared Key, PEAP, LEAP, EAP-TLS, EAP-FAST, EAP-TTLS and EAP-SIM

Not sure how it will get a digital certificate if you are using one.

So if I wanted to use the curve with my existing network I'd have to go back to WPA-PSK?

I have never tried it with WPA2, so I can't answer that honestly.

So do you have an 8320 already? If so, how did you manage to get your hands on it before it was released? I'm practically salivating over here waiting to get one... its only a little more than a week before general release, but I really really want one. I'm tired of holding my blackberry close to the ceiling just to send a text message.

^^^ Ditto. I'm using WPA2 on an Apple Airport Express with my 8320.

It's called Pre-shared Key (PSK) in the security type.

I'm using WPA2-PSK on a DD-WRT flashed Buffalo Router. UMA works awesome, let the good times roll!
