When the FCC issued the two licenses for Satellite radio one of the rules stated that one company can not hold both licenses. The main reason Sirius wants to buy XM is to control all of the Satellite radio spectrum and eliminate their competition.
This would be bad for the consumer on many levels.

How would this be bad. XM and Sirius are somewhat competitors in the fact they want subscribers, However, their main competitor is Free Radio. They are both trying to lure listeners from Free Radio to either XM or Sirius, they aren't trying to get people to switch from XM to Sirius or vise verca. It would only be beneficial to the consumer. You would be able to have everything like if you like Howard Stern and Baseball, you would have to have both. Now it would all be one.
This merger will only benefit the consumer. There will not be a price increase. People said when Howard Stern signed up, there would be an increase in price, however this never happened.
