I have a 8830 through Telus in Canada and the gps works awesome using blackberry maps. Unfortunately I like the functions available in google maps and the map detail much better, unfortunately whenever I start it up and press "0" to find my current locations it shows it but then never updates it again. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Google Maps sometimes doesn't update as much as I'd like it to. Try Yahoo! Go. The map widget updates very well.

Nothing is stopping you from installing them. They just won't work with the GPS on VZW.

I just tried and Yahoo GO! does not have a version for the 8830 yet and it auto detects my phone upon the sms message for the OTA download.

yeah, check the forums, there is a yahoo employee posting that works on that project. She say they are working on it i think.
