Default Best Screen Shield / Cleaning The Lens

Please Login to Remove!

I thought we could file these together under maintenance .

1) Which screen protectors do you like ? If not adhesive , then a hard case with a screen ? For those of you who have used them over time , I'd like to hear which you prefer .

2) I'm suspecting the normal suspects .... canned air , maybe alcohol on a Q-Tip ? It's amazing how much crud gets under the battery cover . I'm talking about the camera lens .

I took some great shots early on but it seems like they're a little clouded now . I think the camera is fantastic (with the right light) . Here's two of the first shots I got .....

It took me a couple of days to realize what the cobbler was . I'm new here .

Invisible Shields are good. Pain in the butt to put on though.

Best Skins Ever

I use it and it's so cheap, the same quality as Invisible Shields in my opinion.

And Screen Patronus for simple screen protectors... my fav.

Likewise, on the menu, my fav is Egg Custard pie. yum yum.

Great pics, nice clarity.

There is no problem with your shots or the lens. The Pearl camera is known for taking decent outdoor shots where there is plenty of light, but they are always "clouded" as you would say, or faded. But they are easily edited.

Below is your shot with my 90 second editing job.

I think the Pearl camera does pretty well, as long as one can edit the pics. Which is not a bad thing since even my pics taken with a dedicated 5MP camera need editing.

Sidenote: How cool is that, a fire engine with the department's website address posted on the glass. So cool, so Y2k.

Thanks guys . It sounds like you are happy w/ the adhesives , and they work . I thought I had read they distort the screen sometimes . I've been delaying it , but I need to order some .

Thanks J . Yeah I was shocked actually . It was pixelated on the pearl but was just like you see it on the computer (that's 25% size , "normal" resolution) .

I didn't think the camera was being addressed . I thought about starting a thread, but just threw them in here . I thought you guys would enjoy it . I shot some good pics at a party that weekend (ironically , related to the photo industry) and the guy may use them for his website . It's very funny .

If he does I'll post the link . Here's a couple .....

Sef .... you had me howling a month ago (former east bay) . I've got a Sony I really like. But this camera , it's almost like shooting poloroids . I think it's brilliant .

Nice retouch too . Now if you could just get that blue .....

Question Question?

Does the TOTAL PEARL TOTAL BODY SKIN cover the entire phone specifically the screen. I am going on vacation and want something with no clip but will protect the phone all around so I can carry it in my pocket??!!

What is the Pearl Total Body Skin?

If you are referring to the Best Skins Ever, that is a clear adhesive film that covers the display and the black plastic parts of the phone. BSE does NOT cover the chrome sides.

The BSE will protect the phone from scratches, but that is all. It does NOT protect the phone from impacts.

If you want a "rubber skin" [and maybe that is what you are talking about] those will protect the phone from most impacts [obviously, not from the top of a ferris wheel ride]. But if you drop the phone out of your pocket and on to a tiled floor, the Pearl may survive, whereas without the rubber skin, the Pearl would definitely be toast.

The rubber skins are nice because they are form fitting and would permit you to keep the phone in a pocket. Keep in mind that some rubber skins are sticky and are a hassle to insert and remove from a pocket [although that is a good thing if you don't want the phone to slop out of a top pocket].

There are other rubber skins that are smooth and will not stick to your clothing when inserting or removing the Pearl from a pocket.

What I would do is get the Best Skins Ever and also a smooth rubber skin. And what I do to be super cautious is attach a camera lanyard to which I have attached a clip. I then clip the phone to my pocket so that if the phone does slip out of the pocket, the clip/lanyard saves the day. This is especially needed if you intend to keep the phone in a breast pocket of a shirt or jacket.

Here is my thread on installing a BSE skin.

Here is a pic of the lanyard and clip I am talking about:

I see you didn't choose the first two choices, BestSkinsEver and Invisible shield. Those are the two most popular ones.

But anyway, any screen protector or even any full body protection is better than nothing at all. You actually increase the value of the phone. If you decide to sell it in the future, people will pay more for it.

I have BestSkinsEver full body protection and I have a skin case from Blackberry so my phone is fully protected. If you haven't got the skin case yet, I highly recommend to get it. If you accidentally drop it, it will protect it from any damages.

It's a radical process . I'm aware of that .

That's some thoughtful info , sg . The skin was the first thing I wanted . Then I thought the aluminum case might be cool . But I find I'm enjoying not only holding the pearl , but just looking at it . For travel , I'll probably go pick up a skin .

I'd tell you the case I'm looking at , but I don't want to set off the alarm . There doesn't seem to be that many out there , and fewer people looking for them . Like I said .... :]

I hold the camera very still .

I was gonna say ..... the fire engine shot is 50% of original size , not 25% (the party photos are 25%) . As you reduce them they become sharper.

The night shots were on superfine , that probably helped . It still felt like magic . (use the "return" button (bottom right corner) to release the shutter , it will cause less vibration/movement ...... use available surfaces to balance the camera if possible)

I have used the HoodMan HoodSkins for many years.
Yet, as with any other protective layer, they can be a tedious effort to apply... even if you work in a dust free environment during the application of the film.

That's a good question . I haven't been able to find anything in the documentation or online about the settings .

Obviously "fine" and "superfine" imply the resolution would be higher . What I have yet to do is take the same picture on all 3 settings , and see the difference . That's all you can do . And keep the lens clean .

Wish you luck Sharif , and thanks for the compliment (!) .

And thanks for the link , Randy . And the info .
