Default MicroSD card size limit?

Please Login to Remove!

I apologize if this is a dumb question and I promise I did use the search feature... but is there a limit on the size of the MicroSD card for the pearl?
I'm on my way to go buy a card and of course I want the biggest one available withing price range but I remember reading somewhere that theres a 2gb limit, is this true or am I smoking crack again?

Thanks for the help and I hope to be of some help to others on this forum in the near future.

(oh and it IS a MicroSD card that I need right?)

It is a microSD card. I believe today the limit is 2GB.

i think you cna use a 4gb card, or should be able to. Some devices hate 4gb cards, but those are usually older cameras and so on. a new device such as a Pearl should be able to take a 4gb card, make sure you have the latest firmware.

Well I know I have the latest firmware but I guess I'll just buy a 2g cause I can't afford to pay for 2 extra gigs that I cant use. If anyone successfully installed a 4 gig please let me know, I'll be going to the store in a few hours but will make sure to check back while I'm there before buying... I love mobile internet

edit: Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it!

With the current OS, the limit is 2GB for now.

that's true.

Don't buy the card from the store. I found them to sell it too much. I recommend getting it from Amazon.com. That's where I got mine.

The limit right now is 2 gb. The 4 and 8 gb cards everyone keeps talkin bout are a totally kind of technology. The Pearl might need a new OS and maybe even new hardware to use them. But the 2 gbs work perfectly. Check out buy.com they have microSD cards really cheap there and free shipping most of the time.

Make sure that you format the card inside the Pearl. Then it will recognize it.

You shouldn't need new hardware to support the new SDHC cards, but don't bother wasting your money on the higher-end in terms of speed class. SD1.1 HW can only operate up to 100Mbps throughput (theoretical), whereas SD2.0 HW can go up to 200Mbps. You definitely need a SW upgrade though as the command set for SDHC is slightly different.

I bought my 2gb from newegg for 30 bucks. Not too shabby if you ask me. Buy.com usually has good stuff too.

I asked my blackberry people and they confirmed also that the only thing holding it back from going higher than 2gb is a software update.

Sweet, i guess ill just wait for the 4 or 8 gb card instead of getting a 2 gb one. Oh and buy.com does have some good deals. I got my 1 gb there for $10 and free shipping.

Me too. I was going to get a new 2gb card on Friday, but in case all it will take is new software, I'll hold off and get a 4gb. =)
