Default Can I run both BIS and BES on the same blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

What Iwas wondering was this:

I am currently Pulling my email using BB Internet Service.

I want to install Blackberry Enterprise Server on my Server. I am cool with running all email through the BES, BUT, I have quite a few customers that reach me directly at my vzw.blackberry.net address which is strictly a Web Client, BIS, feature that I would lose if I went solely to BES. This would be a nightmare if I stopped being able to get the blackberry.net emails.

Someone at Verizon told me that if I install BES on my server (which is NOT) where I do my current syncs through desktop manager, and don't delete any of the BIS stuff off of the other computer, that the blackberry will 100% be able to give me wireless syncs off of exchange and still be able to give me my emails directly through BIS for the blackberry.net email address.

I am not quite sure why it matters if I delete destop manager off of my laptop, BUT, this is what he said.

Anyone else run BES to sync calenders and contacts, but continue to use BIS in order to continue to use the WEB CLIENT for email?

Sorry if that was confusing.

-Steve

You can run BIS and BES at the same time. BES gives you another e-mail address in addition to your Verizon BIS account.

I've been running the same configuration for years with multiple accounts. So yes it will work as you need.

The only caveat to this is if your BB is issued to you by your employer the IT department might put an IT Policy on it that restricts adding BIS accounts. The Blackberry is surely capable of running both BIS and BES at the same time. The question is whether or not your company will allow you to do it.

I agree. I used Exchange My Mail for about a year, along with BIS.
Worked great for me. However, I would check if the BES is managed by someone other than yourself at your company.

I know everyone here says it will work, but when I had BIS installed first, my ExchangeMyMail BES account would not sync my calendar and contacts because of some conflict. I don't know if I had installed it the other way around if it would have worked or not? But you might want to be aware that email might work fine, but the sync with calender/contacts might not. I am not an expert, just giving you my experience.

I would love to use both though...maybe I'll give it another try now that my BES is working flawlessly. (In other words, since its working great, lets see if I can screw it up LOL).

I had BIS and BES running at the same time. I started with BIS, and added the BES from Exchange My Mail later. Worked great, and I was happy with the service.
I think there must be something set up wrong. When I added exchange my mail, I had to call Alltel, as they had not activated BES functionality.

I am using both. The provider has to 'provision' your device for BIS and BES. the last two new units we got were not setup like that, only for one or the other, and the unit wouldn't work with both. I had to call tech support and get them to change that setting on their end.
