I'm certain this is a newbie question, however I downloaded the desktop software. Seems to be working fine, however, the Configure Reconciliation is greyed out. Is this feature only available through an enterprise or should I try reinstalling?

Are you on Cingular. Do you have a BIS account?

Yes, I presume that is the internet service account.

I have access to other syncronization features and was easily able to migrate my Outlook, however I am wondering if there are any preferences I am missing for email features availble under the synchronization tab.

BIS is BlackBerry Internet Service (the personal acct) as opposed to:
BES is BlackBerry Enterprise Service (the company acct) for corp. accts with BB servers.

For Example:
I'm on Cingular and BIS. In the Desktop Manager ver. 4.2 there are 5 icons.
1) Application Loader
2) Backup and Restore
3) Media Manager
4) Switch Device Wizard
5) Synchronize

I'm not sure what you are referring to. Where does this dialog appear, on the BlackBerry? or somewhere else?

What comes to mind at the moment is on the BB click the messages icon, then click the track wheel again for the pop up menu and at the bottom there is a choice called "Reconcile Now". What that does is to reconcile the email between the handheld and the computer. And in this particular case it would not be greyed out, even if your BB was not connected to your computer.

Give me a description of where you are seeing this message.

I'm seeing the message under Synchronize and Configuration which wasn't listed by you. I have downloaded the most recent version of the desktop manager: 4.2.1.8.

Under a BIS setup of Desktop Manager, you cannot synchronize email with the desktop, which leads me to think you may have chosen Enterprise during DM's setup. Uninstall and reinstall at the desktop and be certain to choose Individual during the setup. Hope that helps, but please post back either way.

No you are not missing anything. The desktop manager is designed for data sync like Outlook etc. Whereas email is handled seperately through BIS. One must log onto the BIS web page where you will find choices to set your email preferences.

Thanks for the thought, however I did choose the individual. Are the areas under Synchronize and Configuration, (specific to reconciling emails) on your desktop greyed out as well?

Where is the BIS webpage?

I did go to the BIS webpage, however I don't see a way to setup how email is handled between my Outlook and my Blackberry.

Email reconciliation (the function of Configure Reconciliation) is only available via your BIS login or handheld, since you're on a BIS. This explains why it's greyed out in DM, as you have no BES access or control. As long as the function is behaving correctly, you're good to go.

If you are wanting corporate email pushed to your handheld without a BES and with the personal cingular BIS plan. You need to login to your internet service www.cingular.com/blackberrystart and goto set up mail account. Next, you will enter your corporate email address, and pick that you use outlook to access your exchange email. Finally, it should ask you to download mail connector, which is a program that runs in the background on your desktop and pushes email to your BB.
