I've recently upgraded to a Pearl and it is great except for one problem I have with the address book.

All the mobile numbers in my address book are entered as 07..... like how most UK mobile numbers begin. However I soon found out that whenever someone in my address book sent me an SMS, the Pearl couldn't recognise who they were as the number received was prefixed as +44 7.... in other words including the international prefix number for the UK (+44). As a result, I changed all the numbers for every mobile contact from 07 to +44 7 so the SMS service would recognise who was contacting me.

However, now that I have done this whenever someone calls me, it also doesn't recognise the contact as this wants the numbers entered as 07 and not +44 7 unlike the SMS.

It is a pain because to fix the SMS problem I create a problem when I receive a call and vice versa.

Any ideas or fixes are appreciated.

Just a thought - have you tried going into "Smart Dialing" (Phone / Options / Smart Dialing) and setting the Country Code to +44

I seem to recall this helping us with a similar problem.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've had a look for the 'smart dialing' and it isn't anywhere to be found under the options. It also isn't in any of the sub-menus for anything else as far as I can see.

This seems to be the way to solve the problem as I looked in the manual - I just can't find the menu to fix it!

Hmm - here's how I am finding it:

Click the green button to start the phone application.
Click the menu button and select "Options"
On the next screen ("Phone Options") the next to last one is "Smart Dialing"

Is it different on yours?

Yes I've found it now - I was looking under the main options menu. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I have changed the home country code to +44 from +1 wherever that is. I've tested it and the problem now seems to be sorted.

+1 would be North America
