Question Adding a user....

Please Login to Remove!

Running BES 4.1 with Exchange 2000. Clients are all Outlook 2003. I have 12 users running on my BES with no problems. I now have a new user. I had her install the BlackBerry Desktop Software (selected BES for redirection, Exchange, etc) as I watched remotely over her shoulder. I had her sync the BB happily with her mailbox. I go to my BES, Add Users and she magically appears. I do not get her PIN or phone number to show. Under status it just says Initializing. It should the Wireless Syn as Enabled, Redirection True and the correct Mail Server name listed. I have another user on the same Mail Server on the BES and verified BESAdmin rights are identical. I've done the same steps since BES 3.6. I've added other new acoxxxxs to the BES doing this without problems. What am I missing?

Wow, people do things so differently!
When I add a new user I never install the BB software on the client machines. I add the user to the Bes from the global address book, click properties for the user, give them a password, apply the password, then activate them on the bes wirelessly. (enterprise activation under Options/Advanced Options) All contacts, appointments, emails, etc. are then transfered to the device wirelessly. The Pin gets established, they think I'm a magician and I don't have to spend time teaching them about the desktop software.
This probobly doesn't help you but just wanted to let you know there is another way.....

Well, i come from both worlds.

We used to install the Desktop manager program, but its just to damn time consuming... and not really needed. I would recommend swinter's approach, it seems to work better.

As for your problem... she synced the device BEFORE you added her to the BES? I remember running into problems with that before on some random version of BES. I'd recommend you security wipe her device (go to the security screen on the handheld, click wheel and hit wipe) then after it reboots, activate her wirelessly.

We never use Desktop Manager after 3.6. No real need for it.

Default How do you update address books?

How can the users' address books be updated (since BES doesn't support wireless sync of the address book) if the user doesnt have the desktop software installed?
