yeah i am looking foward to this phone i heard great things about this phone but i also heard some bad things which is why i delayed my decision in buying this phone... i was almost going to switch to cingular and just buy the blackjack... but my friend has one and i must say that the internet if pretty fast but some sites that i would go on my sidekick wouldnt even load on the blackjack... and i thought u could stream anything from the web but u cant even watch streaming youtube videos so i changed my mind and just kept it more simple with the pearl

You can't stream video on the pearl either.

Man the hip top is a gimmick for the hip hop generation. I had the side kick 1 & 2 they were alright but compared to this BB PEARl its garbage. But honestly the key board on the Pearl is anoying im thinking of downgradin to another bb...

Great choice. I went from Sk3 to BB8100. You won't regret it!

Sidekicks are geared more towards the teen market. [Hey, don't get mad at me, that's what everyone else says, see below].

IMHO "graduating" up to the Pearl is a smart move.

I had a shortlist of about 5 phones, all smartphones (motorola q, chocolate, treo, etc), and no pearl, never heard of it. I went to the Rogers store to purchase a Treo 650, then saw the Pearl, checked it out, purchased it within 5 mins, it won out over all 5 of my shortlist phones even tho I did much research on those and none on Pearl. Now that I have read much on the Pearl, it is perfect.

And the keyboard? Absolutely brilliant, it is very rare that it gets a word wrong, and I have timed myself and can easily type over 30WPM, which is a bit more then a third of my computer keyboard speed!

Mann... I don't know.. it's my second day of Pearl-ing.. and... well, it kinda sucks that it's not a full QWERTY keyboard.. but, overall, great phone.. better than my RAZR.

JackyC, I posted right before you, and perhaps you did not see it. I was skeptical at first as well, but now that I am used to it, I truly feel that the compressed keyboard is the one thing I love BEST about the Pearl, over other BBerries! From my experience, its success rate at knowing the word you're typing so that you do not have to scroll and pick, is well above 95%, and that is a very small price to pay to have a sexy and compact phone! Worry not, there will come a time very shortly when trading in this smart keyboard for a bulky full-qwerty seems ridiculous!

ps. I compared my typing speed on my Pearl compared to a full-keyboard Pearl, and the difference is less then 2 wpm (with no errors)!

Well, I guess i'd have to get used to it then. Don't you guys worry of dropping your phone because it's so sleek and small? Especially when you're typing so fast... speaking of typing.. my friend and I are talking about Economics homework over text right now... how sad... but I'm loving it. I can now successfully say that i own a BlackBerry... not a phone MUAHA =)

I haven't dropped my Pearl once since I got it. I used to drop my 7100t all the time. It's actually very easy to hang on to. I put the invisible shield on it, though, too and I'm sure that helps. It makes it a little "sticky."

I really like the trade-off between full qwerty having brick on the side of my face to talk...and small little pearl, comfortable, with SureType.

IMO, full QWERTYs are good for those who don't TALK as much as they TYPE on their phones.

SK3 never even crossed my mind

Thanks a lot for all the feedback I am starting to feel much better about my blackberry pearl purchase... I have had the sidekick 2 and 3 and I am starting to dislike it and I regret upgrading to this sidekick 3... is there anything wrong with the blackberry pearl that anyone here has experienced??

Well, my browser wasn't working properly.. it'll freeze and turn white-screen on me every time i clicked browser. But, I went and exchanged it for a new one today good as new!

PS - Don't expect the browser to be outrageously fun... it's kinda slow, and small... but great for checking the weather and movie times.

Are there any phones on the market that let you stream videos from YouTube?

Also, about the Sidekick vs. Pearl thing. The Pearl feels more exclusive than the Sidekick and even though that sounds shallow, it's important to me. I don't want a phone that everyone else has (which is why I never liked the RAZR).
