Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I'm 16 and I've been looking for a new smart phone. i'm in love with the blackberry pearl, but i'm wondering if it's worth getting even if i'm not using it for business purposes. Any ideas?

If you can afford it why not. The Pearl was designed more for consumers anyway. The non-corporate group of users as where the 8700 and such were designed for the corporate user.

I think you'd be happy with it!

The Pearl is not a rugged, durable device... are you like most 16 year olds and lose, drop or otherwise abuse electronic devices?

Wirelessly posted (Mandizzle's Pearl: BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

If you can afford the pearl and a data plan then go for it. Trust me when I say you won't be disappointed.

If you're not doing web surfing or email then you may as well get any phone as you won't need the features on the pearl.

If you can afford the voice and data monthly bill. Go for it.

I would say yes heh. If you can afford it heh. And especially the data plan. I got mine from Cingular just today and it is awesome. I went with the unlimited data and the 1000 texts. I should be posting this from my phone what am I thinking;). But seriously so far so good I will probably post in a week or two and let you know how I am getting along with it.

As a tip from a noob definitely read the faqs on this website. The guys who put them together (sorry I don't know names guys) put together awesome stuff and it has helped me out ALOT. Anyways good luck with your decision.

Let me say this, I always wanted a smart phone but I did not get one. I had a job but they did not pay that much.

Once I got a "career job", I got one.

well I do take care of my stuff. I've had a 3rd generation ipod for 3 years

Ya see though, I don't do email that often. i do a lot of texts and AIM im's, and I surf the new A LOT. So this phone does looks great, and i got the moo lah haha it was this or a 360.

I'd rather spend a huge amount of money on something i'll use every hour almost instead of video games

I didn't e-mail much..until i got my Pearl..my job really doesn't depend on e-mail, but as a student and being self-employed, it's great.

another vote for "if you can afford it"

I'm not 16 myself, but I do have to stand in defense of this kid. Assuming he is going to abuse and be irresponsible with this device is a little stereotypical. The reason RIM tries to make most of their devices rugged in the first place is because it is the BUSINESS/CORPORATE users that are irresponsible because they are often absent minded and drop their BB's or abuse them in some way or another.

On another note. Errockk. I'm a student myself and have to say that since switching to the Pearl I don't think I can ever go non-BB again. The nickname "Crackberry" truly is self-explanatory and fits the profile.

If you do a Google search you can get the Pearl for free after rebate, so it all depends if someone can afford the monthly charges or not.

Uh, what the hell is "slow cell phone internet"? I never knew that even existed, and for free? Where are you getting this?

I think it's worth it. I was 17 when I got my first blackberry (an 8700c) and I have never regretted it. I absolutely love it, so I agree with everyone else, if you can afford the phone and the data plans, go for it. I wish I could get the pearl now, it's oh so attractive.

Oh and I forgot to mention the best part. When your friends, bf/gf, parents try to use your phone, and look through your texts messages or call logs, they (usually) have no idea how to begin and give up. Everyone's so used to their RAZRs or similar phones, so when they come across a blackberry, they don't know what to do. Not that I'm saying it's difficult to use a blackberry, but it's not your typical cell phone.

That's been a big perk for me.

I say yes. I got mine for my 18th birthday, I don't have a job, and I'm loving it so far.
