I have 2 users in the company who have Blackberry's and want their accounts integrated with Exchange 2003. I've installed the Mail Connector but have a few questions:
1. The Mail Connector runs as a Windows service. Is it 100% necessary that I need to be logged into the Desktop for the Mail Connector to work with the Outlook profile?
2. When I downloaded the Mail Connector and integrated the account, I didn't have Outlook open yet the web site was able to pick up the Outlook profiles I have setup on the server. Do I need to have Outlook open at the same time for the Mail Connector to work?
3. I've sent some test emails and to the Blackberry device and they've not been forwarded by the Mail Connector. What could be the problem?
4. On the Desktop task bar, you can go into the Mail Connector Settings and it has a space for Proxy settings. Do I need to put user creds in here? I can get on the Internet from the Administrator user account I'm logged in as.
Thanks very much.

From my experience, when you are dealing with the Blackberry Internet Service (Web Client) account and a MS Exchange email address, the Mail Connector will need to be used in every case. The Web Client acts like "REDIRECTOR" when dealing with an email address from an Exchange Server. The computer, upon which Mail Connector was installed, will need to remain on 24/7 in order to constantly receive emails to it without interruption.
Now I'm aware that person's having their emails integrated thru this can go through one Mail Connector program instead of each computer having to have a Mail Connector installed on it but again, each computer is still going to need to be left on 24/7 to receive emails without interruption.
I would contact your carrier's BB Help Desk Support Line to determine if there are steps to troubleshoot problems with running the Mail Connector. There could be a setting on there that is not set right thus why the emails are not going. In the extreme case of it not working at all for this particular exchange server I would recommend setting up an "auto forward" thru Outlook to a BB email address (
[email protected]). This will forgo having to use the Mail Connector and allow for emails to transmit uninterrupted when the pc's are turned off.
Hope this helps.
