Useful for different purposes. The BB maps are vector based, and good for scrolling around. The street names move along with you as you scroll. They also integrate with external (bluetooth) GPS.

The Google maps I prefer for generating directions, and just looking up addresses.

Google!

1) Cool factor, satellite images
2) Traffic status, you see map with traffic conditions color coded, red, yellow, green.

Actually the most important is just better lookup and human directions.

Good point dwc, BB maps are intergrated well with txt and contacts. Thats a big plus, I wish google maps were.

Vector scalable maps use much less data, but BB Maps is not dynamic routing like Waypoint or Telenav.

The Satelitte imaging is definitely a nice touch with the Google Maps!

google maps has more complete maps - at least in my area
bbmaps can't find some places I look for - it doesn't have the map. I just get a grey grid. would be awesome to play with a gps though.

I prefer Google Maps for pretty much all the reasons above. The only thing I have found that is slightly better on BB Maps is that it seems to have a more updated database of streets in my area.

In BlackBerry Maps the trackball seems extremely sensitive. It makes scrolling through directions very frustrating. I switched to Google Maps because of that.

Personally, I've found that Google maps is much more intuitive when searching for places. You don't have to get the address exactly right. That saves me time.

Well its pretty generic, red = bad traffic, yellow = slow traffic and green = traffics moving baby.

I am guessing that if you aren't using the GPS feature, Google maps is going to be a better experience. I am guessing because I have not yet tried BB Maps, but I am testing Wayfinder and Spot on my 8700 along with a Royal Tek BT 2001. Telenav won't answer my emails. Google with the traffice and favorites is pretty hard to beat along with their extensive database of POIs and the easy zoom in/out.

Yeah, I can't get the BB Maps to work. Same problem, just a gray grid. And no help on any of the forums, people simply say that it should work, but it does not. No one seems to know why for many of us we are getting the gray grid. I loaded BB Maps, inserted address and nothing shows up, albeit the icon shows that the program is accessing the Net to find the map.

Since I could not get BB maps to work, I went to Google. Like its satellite feature.

Hey guys I just picked up my new BB Pearl a few days ago and I want to use it as a navigation unit versus getting a Garmin Nuvi.

I just want to know do I just need the BB Maps and a GPS receiver and im all set?

Stinsonddog - is the Royal Tek BT 2001 the best receiver on the market for its price now and would google maps be good to pair up with BB maps?

any help is appreciated

so overall it sounds like Google Maps is better than than the preloaded app on the Pearl... I'd have to vouche for that now. I finally downloaded and used it the other day the directions on Googles are more detailed than what the Preloaded app gives. I mean yea they basically said the same thing but Google Maps actually told me what Exits off the highway I should be looking for versus the Preloaded App saying take the "..." exit
