A little spare time today, so I went into the cingular store to inquire the final bottom line price for a 8700. Well RIM haa a "trade up" going on now for various model handhelds.

So if I can find my friggin' 5810 in my house I can get $63 for that, sell my 7100 on ebay, plus add the $50 cingular rebate I should be looking at a grand total of around $100 or so dollars for the 8700. The final number hinges on what I can get for my 7100 on ebay, but a hundy should be worse case scenario.

Not bad, thought about waiting it out to see what goes on with the 8800 but not at this price. Now if I can only find that 5810 to seal the deal.

You can go to Cingular online and get a refurb 8700 for $149.00. I was toying with what you were doing with the upgrade it was to much work. I have had no problems with refurb blackberries in the past its another alternative.

well, I have about 5-6 BB5810 lying in my garage and they are in working condition. looks like I might be able to ship them back thru this rebate and get newer devices.
not bad. I will check detail tonight... any cons?

First, they had no refurb'd units when I was looking.

Only a 90 day warranty on refurb'd stuff, plus if I can get a new one for around the same cost as rufurb'd why wouldn't I.

Understand your points, but IMO new is better for warranty and resale if I choose to sell it down the road.

Can't trade up mutiple units, basically 1 old for 1 new.

That's why I'm trading the 5810 to RIM and will sell the 7100 on ebay. Seems to make more $$ sense to me because you can't get dick for a 5810 on ebay.

I think the trade up plan is a good deal. I was rather surprised to find out about it myself.

I was also thinking of trading in my old 7250 unit, but before looking into it, I found a refurb on cingular for $150 and snagged it. Your plan sounds like a good one though.

Thats if the Ebay part works out. There a lot of BB's on Ebay
