I wa sin NYC tooday and tried to view some email, web and chat that I had planned and it said that there is no data service avail. I am on Cingualar network. I find it hard to believe that EDGE does not work in NYC and the millions of of people in NYC cannot get data services on their BB.
Anyone have any thoughts on why? I live in CT about 30 min away from NYC and my service is great... Just does not make sense.

Did you shut off the radio or restart the BB. Cingular has data services in New York.

I work in Fort Lee, NJ, and I was having problems with my 8700c...it has been down since 10am this morning..i called cingular data support, and they told me that one of the servers was down in the nyc area, and they are working on it...he couldn't tell me how long it would take.....i'm back home from work now, and on my way home when i was on the highway, all my emails flooded on to my device...so i was out of touch with my emails for about 11 hours today..god i felt so out of touch with the rest of my pals! i realized today that i am officially a crackberry addict!

it's working fine right now...EDGE is back..i just hope when i get back to work tomorrow morning, the servers are back up and running!

I posted about the same problem in the general forum earlier today. I left the city late this afternoon and a few miles past the Bronx, everything started working again. A little odd since the whole area is a single market, presumably with the same data system, but who knows. Maybe it was some UMTS setup gone awry.

I'm in NYC and had EDGE and e-mail all day yesterday. In fact, I have never had more than 5 minutes of non-EDGE coverage when in the city.

I live in upstate NY about 90 miles north of the NYC, and last week there were some issues with data connection that when I called I believe they said it affected customers in the north east region. I don't remember exactly which days or days it was, but at times my berry would just say "data connection refused". When I called they told me about the network issues they were having. Not specifically what happened, but that things would be back up shortly. And sure enough they did. My point in all of this is, I think Cingular was having some network issues that may have been what caused your outage in NYC.
