Default Verizon 7130 Phone/Call Quality & Reception

Please Login to Remove!

I am interested in purchasing a 7130 from Verizon. Although the feedback on here seems pretty positive, I'm curious if anyone can offer insights to the quality of the phone's reception and call clarity. I currently have a Treo 650 and I'm looking for a unit that offers better phone functionality. Also, how does this phone compare to the phone on the new 8700? Thanks!

I've had mine for a couple of weeks, and I'd say that the phone quality is on par with my last cell phone, a LG4500, namely, pretty good. I live in the Rochester, NY area and usually have multiple bars of 1XEV signal at all times.

Chicago area here but do some light traveling and have no complaints about the phone quality. Excellent sound level, always good signal except when I am in certain warehouses or surrounded by too many computers.

Well,
I have had my 7130e for about 3 months now and have had VERY few problems. the one that I do have sometimes is that when tethered the phone will lock up, then reboot. Its not frequent tho, so no biggy. As for the reception and sound quality, it is awesome up here in Boston.

This phone is great. I sometimes wonder if I had to choose another phone on the Verizon network, which one would I get? The answer I come back to is that I would not give this one up. The features are great, can customize it. Sometimes I miss having a flip phone to quickly throw in my pocket, but that can be overlooked.

I agree. I have have the 7130e for about 3 months in Columbus OH on VZW and the only problem i have ever had is the lockup while tethered. Phone quality great, new key board took some time to learn, but all in all a great phone

Agree with kirwoodd. Live in a suburb of Boston, have taken my phone all over MASS, RI, and to New York City. Superb reception and call quality.

Talking 7130 comments

Had my 7130 on the Alltel network for a couple weeks attached to our GroupWise BES. I've had lots of problems getting an 1XEV signal even though we're in an EVDO area. Alltel seems clueless to resolving the problem, but then again this is a new unit for them. Our group has supported the Verizon flavor of the unit and had loads of compliments to maybe its just an Alltel issue. My biggest complaint are with the unit receving what I call phantom messages. The unit shows an unopened message even though all the mesages have been read and missed call reminders are deleted.

Anyone else having this problem?

I have the 7130e on the verizon system and travel quite extensively. I have had excellent results with the phone. I have had some problems in very remote locations (ie. in the mountains) as I live in Colorado, but attribute this more to system coverage than phone reception. I do find it is better overall than my 7750 on the same network.

I would have to agree with all of you regarding the quality of the 7130e. It is great for voice and data, i believe the update to 4.1 helps with the tether lock up issues a few of you are experiencing....4.1 is up on vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry

I set the "convenience key" to open Keyboard Lock. This allows you to quickly set the lock if you are frequently taking the phone in and out of your pocket.

If you hold down the "star" key, that locks the keyboard.....

I' meant a phone I didn't have to take the time to lock the keyboard. Just shut the lid(a la hang up) and throw in pocket.

In the Philly, Delaware area Verizon was typically good, however sometimes there is considerable breakup and distortion on my 7130e.

When the call is made and clean, the clarity is great. So I figure it's more the coverage, not the device.

Heavy user of the phone and 2 weeks in I think its great. Audio quality is right there with the best phones have had and the speaker phone blowes away my razr. Out here in Western Mass Not a problem.
