Default 1st Day! Cingular 8700 on Tmobile

Please Login to Remove!

Got an unlocked Cingular 8700 and in use with Tmo's 19.99 BB plan. So far have setup all office and personal emails through BIS and seems working ok. Had a problem with OWA office mail when I didn't put the s behind https for our OWA url, but after correcting it, seems to be fine now.

Not used to using phone with my right hand in order to use the thumbwheel, since I'm used to using a phone with my left.

Have been wanting to port to Cingular as the Tmo cellular reception in my area isn't terrific, but prefer the Tmo BB plan price than Cingular. Will need to think about this.

Will be vacationing in Japan for 2 weeks. Does BB email work there?

This is a great forum, very impressed with the member posts, thank you!

Does the 8700C on TMobile support Yahoo Messenger or AIM as the 7100 did?? I wasn't able to figure that out from previous posts. Thanks

HEres a question:
where does one get an "unlocked" device? The T-mo stores dont have the 8700, but cingular like 2 blocks from my house does...can I just buy the phone, get it unlocked, and throw in my SIM, and be good to go?

Thanks!

Great forum, btw...

Nope; there is no BlackBerry coverage at all in Japan. DIfferent mobile radio technology there.

T-Mobile will have the 8700 in 1-2 weeks. If you can wait until then, do so.
Otherwise, you can buy a Cingular 8700 retail and have it unlocked by GSMPhoneSource or one of the other unlockers (it is not free). With the T-Mobile 8700 imminent, I personally would wait.

There must be 100 threads on unlocking 8700s.

Unlocked BB's are plentiful on ebay.

Looks like I'll be staying with Tmo instead of switching to Cingular. Reception is better than the last phone I had around several block area near my home, probably because the 8700 has better radio than my last phone. Given the Tmo dataplan is less than Cngular's, will stay with Tmo.

Be very, very careful with eBay BlackBerrys. You have no assurance they are unlocked, and they may have IT Policies on them from prior owners. Feel free to buy them, but you should know the risks.

Hmm, thanks for the callout. Didn't know anything about IT policies. Fortunately the unit I purchased was new and had not been used from a dealer with good feedback from ebay.
Good buyer beware caution.
