I have the new BB 9780 and noticed that vodaphone has a newer s/w version. I was able to download the file using my BB and the file is stored on my SD card. Question is will the BB let me install this software or does it have to be done on a PC?

You downloaded an OS install file?

If so, it is meant to be installed on the computer, and then the OS files installed on the device from the computer.

Yes the browser on the 9780 is such that it let's me view and do things just like on my PC. It let me go to the RIM site and downloaded the OS release for vodaphone italy. I haven't tried to execute the file from my BB bcuz I didn't want to screw something up. Will it work or does it need to be done on PC?

If the device works as you need and want it to work, and is not broken, why try to fix it?

It could change the way things work or as a worst case, you could brick it.

My advice is if it is working as you need, then it doesn't need an OS update.

Yeah I hear ya. It does work fine and it would be just wanting the "newest" software version. No real need to update it.
Thanks for the input...I'll leave as is until tmobile releases an upgrade (and perhaps at that point I'll be aware of bugs that I would like fixed by the release).
