If you just wanted a phone, why not buy a regular one?

Buying a BlackBerry to use as just a phone is like buying a 5 course dinner when you just fancy a snack!

Well you could argue that some folks require a simplistic PIM which is phone capable and syncs with Outlook. Yes it could be called over kill but allot of folks use Palm enabled phone devices without a data package...

I agree with Highwayman, Blackberries are not cheap. Blackberries are mainly designed for email and internet access, but some people have money like that and wants the best of the best. You may want to get data service one day so at least you're ready.

Hey I forgot to mention that I got this 7100t for free, I had a V300 and i went to a t-mobile store in the mall and complained about the v300 luckily i had the box with me so they just traded the blackberry for it. So any cool tricks with the blackberry?

OK, a couple of questions for you then.

1. Does the company you work for have a BlackBerry Server?
2. Do you have personal mail accounts that are accessable from the internet or with a IMAP / POP3 connection to your ISP?

If so, you can use the BlackBerry service. How depends on the answers to questions 1 and 2.

I bought a 7230, w/o a data plan too, so i'm in the same boat.

The real reason is I want a reliable pim, and one that if it dies the phone numbers aren't lost. Plus, its nice to have all your contacts able to be called quickly.

I know a lot of people that use BB for PIM only, no data. It still works great for that. You can sync your address book without a data plan, even calendar and all that from your PC if you plug it in regularly. And is actually a bit cheaper than some of the nicer palms out there. My g/f got one without a data plan simply because she finds it much easier and quicker to SMS from a BB than a regular phone or palm.

It's all preference..
