You need to look at two things first. Free memory and the number of applications running.

You have. 64MB device, correct? If so, you need to have around 12MB at least after a battery pull. If you can get up to 14 or 15, better. You'll need to uninstall all applications you don't absolutely need. Same for themes. Find the sticky post by John Clark on freeing up memory. Lots of good tips.

And you need to close applications when you are done. Don't simply back out. Close or exit using the menu. And be aware of applications that an set to run in the background. Disable that setting or otherwise totally close the application when not using.

Do those things and see where you stand.

. . . And you can see free memory at options > status. It will be highest after a battery pull. So when you start using applications, it will be lower.

The 8330 is 96MB but with OS 5.0, you might have only 14-20MB free with no other applications installed. If you had less than 15MB free prior to your upgrade, you will definitely need to decide which apps are 'keepers' and which ones need to go.

Ahhhh ok.

That's what it was like when I put 4.5 on my 8820. Ok, what 3 apps do I really, really need? I did free up a few megabytes by removing hidden themes and such.

Have you added any other apps recently. In my experience a new app is most likely the cause for your problems. Some weather apps get the forcast every 30 minutes and when they do you will see the hourglass.

I had that problem on my 8330 recently. I discovered that two of my apps were constantly updating information, sometimes updating at the same time. After I changed the settings on those two apps I stopped getting the battery drain. A friend suggested checking my apps, glad I checked. Just a thought!
