I've noticed something amongst various Wi-Fi enabled BB's i've owned over the past year and was always meaning to ask this...
As i was writing this up, i was downloading PBA 2 Bowling onto my Storm 2 9520 via the nearby router's Wi-Fi (who's line was receiving 1.7Mbps download speeds down the line itself)
Now if i were to download say an MP3 file via iTunes on my netbook over the same network with a song roughly the same size (4-5mb) it would be approximately 4-5 seconds to download (then however long to process the received file)
With the BB WiFi however the download is rate is slow (going by the progress bar when you download an item via Browser). Now i read somewhere (*EDIT*
Here's the link i was looking for that RIM switch the WiFi radios on the BB to sleep in order to minimize BB usage which i totally understand however is it this reason that causes the bottleneck or is it something else?
i.e. is it the Browser itself? Are the download servers configured differently between mobile and proper browsers? And is there a way of developing an app which can alter the power management profiles or settings of the WiFi radio's itself? I'd happily sacrifice battery power in favour of faster download rates...
