Default New Blackberry owner - Advice needed

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have just bought a Blackberry Curve 8900. I did some research before purchasing. I have an o2 pay as you go sim card, i have no data plan or anythin as of yet, i am willing to get a different network sim if it makes it any easier with data plans etc.

The thing is, i live in France the majority of the time, although i am moving back to the UK in the next year. What i would like to know is what kind of data plan would be best for me, how much are they etc? Does the wifi work without a data plan? I am really into gadgets so i will be making the most of the phone and the apps and what the phone has to offer, also will be using it a lot to keep in contact with friends, facebook etc.

If anybody has any advice for me it'd be much appreciated. I am thinking maybe it will cost too much for an international data plan from the UK for me in France, maybe i should get a french sim card and sort the data plan out with them in Frace? But then how much would it cost to use when i am in the UK... Roaming charges etc?

Any advice will do. Thank you

The BlackBerry Data Plan, it is what you need.

WiFi will work without a the Data Plan, for the Hotspot browser only.

I don't know the data plan cost, it varies from mobile provider to mobile provider.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know enough to be able to suggest whether i should get a data plan for a UK network, French network or an international data plan?

If i did get a blackberry data plan in the UK, would it be pretty pointless because of the roaming charges for when i use it in France or vice versa?

An international plan would be the easist to do.

Any rough ideas of the cost? I'm sure i heard somewhere t-mobile do an international plan for £15 a month. Not sure whether that is the actual Blackberry data plan or not though.

i can look around on the websites for you.
for the most part though its dependant on either: price of plan and what type of plan.

O2 and t-mobile offer blackberry data plans on SIM ONLY plans, but not payg
Orange offers BB data plans on payg (but trying to find that info is really difficult on the website)

EDIT: both o2 and t-mobiles websites are "down for maintance!"

AFAIK, the only provider that has BlackBerry data on a pre-pay basis is Orange UK.
