I need an app that runs in the background (very simple operations) and springs to the foreground at a set time.

I'm new to the blackberry development and would just like some general information. Is this even possible? If so, does anyone have a good reference?

Calendar Alarms would do this. Use the calendar to set a reminder for a given data and time. Boom. You could also use the Alarm Clock for something like this.
