Talking Notepad for Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, first time blackberry owner and have had my Tour for about a month now. I was wondering if the phone had anything like a notepad to keep to-do lists and other random notes. I've looked through the calendar and found the reminders and alarms, which is nice if I need to schedule something. But I'd like somewhere to keep info that I can look at when I want and not having to set a time or date for it. I also found the voice note recorder which is nice when in private, but when I'm in public I don't need everyone to hear my notes or thoughts.

Just wondering if the phone had such a thing. Thanks!!

There is the Memo Pad as well as the Tasks applications that are on the device. There are also plenty of third party applications that will accomplish what you're looking for as well.

I use TxtNotes for note taking and writing. The upside for me is that it saves notes as text files on my media card, so I can transfer my writing to my laptop and back again without much trouble.

Dollars 5 Complete » txtNotes for Blackberry 8800, 8300 and 8100

The program was developed for the 8xxx series handsets, but I have it on my Tour and it works as well as it did on my 8830.

I just downloaded txtNotes, but the font is so tiny I can barely see it. I don't see anywhere to change it.

I could not get it to save any settings either. nem0, were you able to adjust the font or get it to save your settings?

Hmm, you're right, there's no way to change the font size. I hadn't noticed because I have all my defaults set to small-ish fonts anyway.

Mine does save its settings, however. There's no save option in the menu, but if you make any changes it will ask you to save/discard/cancel. Also, if you change the default save path, you have to highlight the folder you want, then select "set location," then hit back until you're back to the settings page. If you navigate into the folder, the "set location" command won't work right. Had to learn that by trial and error...

Admittedly, it's a quirky program, and I'd like to see some changes (especially the font size thing, now that you've pointed it out). So I guess I can't recommend it without some reservations.

Where is the "Notes" icon that I used to have on my Curve? The one that synced with my Outlook's Notes???

Does MemoPad sync with Outlook's Notes? I am not finding MemoPad anywhere -- ???

Apache, I don't think you read this thread before you posted, did you? You would see above the MemoPad is normally found in the Applications folder.

MemoPad syncs with Outlook.

The best app I have ever used for this function is Natara's Bonsai, unfortunately it is Palm/PPC only. There was a complementary (but not required) desktop app.

Check it out here:
Natara Bonsai - Outlining for Windows and the Palm Computing Platform

Maybe if there were enough requests they would come to BB. Their apps are perfect for the BB market.

IdeaMatrix is great, but I moved to Evernote because I use the same app to dump stuff into from the web. But if you are really talking only text I'd suggest IdeaMatrix, The Rex guys build solid apps and their support is beyond reproach. I know some people think its expensive but the quality of the app shows how much time they put into the development.
