RIP Teddy. Like him or not he was consistent over his life and time in politics, pushing for things to benefit the less fortunate. Over 300 Bills turned into law. Involved in more charity work than people know.

+1, RIP. I didn't agree with his politics, but there's no denying that he worked hard for his constituents and did his job well. He was a great American.

I certainly don't mean any disrespect to Kathryn, but your definition of "great American" and mine must differ greatly. Since this isn't in the sensitive discussion area, I won't elaborate. All I'll say is that my opinion is formed more by his actions and not his political party.

And, with all due respect to the Kennedy family... they should have the peace of knowing Mr. Kennedy is no longer suffering.
Ted Kennedy should deserve to rest in peace knowing he has reconciled his past. But how can he? Many of us don't think he ever did come clean about many of his questionable activities... from being re-admitted to Harvard after being expelled for cheating on an exam to the Mary Jo Kopechne tragedy, for which was never forced to take responsibility. He was a master politician, which is not the same as a great statesman.
The odd thing is that most of us at his age will pass without having what we did at age 19 or 20 make the headlines... but Kennedy was 37 years old at the time of Chappaquiddick, and more than a decade into his first marriage. Certainly, he wasn't the wisest of the Kennedy clan.
Anywho... there you have my comments.

Why do I suspect that Senators Hatch and McCain are responding in a more gentlemanly manner?

I am guessing that Mary Jo Kopechne's family would not agree, either.

...because anything they say will get picked up by the media?
Regardless, Senator Kennedy was what he was. His life and career defined itself differently to many people, according to how it impacted them.

There's a time and place for discussing his politics, problems, issues etc., (open up a thread in the Sensitive Discussion forum). but the man has died. Let him rest in peace.

Politics and illicit liaisons was his life. Those two areas defined his life. He never tried to hide it, did he?
It's like saying for Michael Jackson's death, there will be no talk about his music or the allegations about his aversions.

But like I said, open up a thread in the sensitive discussions area. That's where most of these comments belong.
