when I first got my 8820, the edge on the top right was not capitalized.

Then, I called tmobile and had them turn on the blackberry feature enabler (free) and then edge became EDGE

I do not pay for data, so I was super excited. I had data for about 4 minutes, and then it cut off. But EDGE remained capitalized... so as far as I know, I'm connected and should have access to the data service.

Is there anything I can do to get it back up?

What are you trying to do? The Feature Enabler gives you MMS access and you see EDGE (and not edge). But not much else.

I was just wondering why I had data service for the 4-5 minutes before I had to run to a meeting, and if there's any way I can get it back again without subscribing. So your point is, even if you see EDGE, it does not mean you can access the data network? Thanks for teh fast response!

You need a blackberry data plan. if you check here BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ you will find why you need it for.

The Feature Enabler is only supposed to give you some of the rudimentary data functions to try them out. It's not a long term solution.

I experienced the same thing. Just enjoy being a poser with "EDGE" =) -- I do. Otherwise nothing you can do to get actual data service other than paying for BIS.
