For awhile now I've spent some time on other forums trying to find if sharing my blackberry on my LAN is possible, but I'm not having much luck.

Ultimately I want to be able to see my blackberry on my computer like any other device. I have 8900 with wifi, which my router gives an IP address to. So why can't I get into the blackberry?

Does anyone know of any apps that might help me here?

You can't. The BlackBerry OS doesn't support this type of networking.
Most likely due to the ultra-tight security model of the OS.

There's no apps that I know of to change this behavior.

I have a theory that I will test tomorrow, if it pans out, I'll post back, if not then the answer stands. I know that the super BlackBerry security will probably blow my theory out the water, but I'll do it anyway.

Well if the only thing I need to keep secure is my home network. Not such a bummer, I've got it pretty locked down through my router anyways.

OK, I put my theory to the test and it worked. Now as stated by penguin, you can't access the BlackBerry via its network IP address as the BlackBerry OS does not operate like that. You can however connect your device to your laptop/desktop via the USB cable, then SHARE the drive letter(s) (if you have a SD card in) and then you will be able to get to your BlackBerry that way over the network.

You can then map a drive letter on your other home network computers that you can simple select and get straight to your BlackBerry device storage, and you can then manipulate the informati0n just as if it were a normal drive on your computer/network.

Of course you can then setup security using the Windows model.

I believe that is not correct. The BB does normal IP networking. When you use Wi-Fi to connect your BB to your home network it gets an IP address.

What is missing is that the BB doesn't natively support any protocol or service for file sharing, but a third party app could do this, e.g. support sharing the BB's files via WebDAV, FTP, etc.

Is it possible to share one blackberry phone so that others can see and control with their blackberry i.e, a remote desktop like thing for two blackberries. I think whatever the discussion that's there in this post is well suitable for this topic.

I heard about PIN messaging. can the sharing kind of thing is not possible by sharing two PINs of the sharable blackberries.

Please give me some idea regarding this.

I've tried a 3rd party application called WiFiTransferLite and it sets up a Web Page that can be accessed over WiFi. It lets you browse your files and well as download or upload. The only bummer I found was that you can't seem to pull up the web page on another Blackberry. Otherwise it worked great at transferring files to/from my Blackberry and PC without needing to connect via USB.

And for those worried about security, I believe the web page is only available when you have the application running on your Blackberry. Once you close it the page is unavailable. You also have the option to change the port from the default of 80.
