OK I'll admit that the Storm is my first BlackBerry but searching through the forums I have not found answers to these questions:
Is there any way to turn off email push services while leaving phone services still on? When I am right next to my computer I would just as soon not have email pushed to my BB yet would still like to continue to receive my cell phone voice services.
Also, if I use the Manage Connections function to turn off all services is it then safe to use the BlackBerry on an airplane to, for example, listen to music or play games? I know that that is what turning off all services is probably there for but I just thought that I would check w/ some experts to make sure!
1. Go to Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options > and set data services to off. Bear in mind that all messages that are received whilst you have data services off will queue up and push as soon as you turn it back on.
2. If you use Manage Connections to turn all connections off before powering down your phone for takeoff, then yes, it is safe to use the device when advised by the crew that electronics are permitted.
Disabling your data services will serve both functions you ask about. You will still get all your email pushed to you at the end of the day unless you set your outlook to delete messages on the server.
For the aircraft turn off your data before you power down the BlackBerry when the aircraft door closes, then on power up during flight your data will already be off.
Thanks very much to both responders, above. Very helpful! It would be nice (at least for me) if push could just be turned off when I didn't need it but getting everything pushed at once when I turn data services back on is the next best option.
