Default Periodic wiping of device...yay or nay?

Please Login to Remove!

Not specific to the Storm, but it's the device I currently own.

So, I've done several OS Beta upgrades, and downgrades; not to mention various free and trail software installs and deletes. I really like how I can upgrade the OS and not have to reinstall and configure my apps (outside of re-entering log on credentials, and activation codes).

That said, is there really any need, from a performance and reliability stand-point, to periodically wipe the device completely and reinstall apps from scratch? I know with my past experience with WinMo devices, and pretty much anything Microsoft related, it seemed to be a good idea to re-image on a bi-annual basis, at least.

However, since having my 8310, I've really seen no reason to even worry about it. Or, am I doing myself a disservice for not refreshing my device?

I personally don't think it's ever a BAD idea, especially if you are like me and you try out a lot of apps, keep some, delete others, and over and over again.

I generally wipe mine every once in a while, just to keep things clean.

Sure it's a pain, but I don't use so many things that it's completely unbearable.

If you have done an OS update then what would be the logic of doing a wipe? One of the steps DM or Apploader takes in changing the OS is deleting the current OS from the phone (read wipe).

Well, I could be off base with this, but I compare it to working with Windows, i.e., a clean install vs. an upgrade.

A Windows upgrade does not "wipe" the OS off the computer. Loading an OS on a BlackBerry does wipe the OS from the device.
