Dear BB'ers,

I've never touched any BlackBerry related products before and I've been asked to have a look at this issue my boss is having since our old IT manager is no longer with our company.

My boss described his problem that his contacts that he creates on his mobile does not get fully added to his contacts list on Microsoft Outlook 2003. By "fully added", I mean, the "Full name" or "Company Name" gets added...but further information such as Mobile Number, Business Number, Category etc. doesn't get added.

The phone in question is a Blackberry 8120 Pearl.

Applications on the BES server are:-
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP1
BlackBerry Server Configuration
BlackBerry Handheld Configuration Tool 4.0
BlackBerry Manager 4.0

Any help/or information needed, don't hesitated to ask. I'm very keen on getting this sorted.

Asking this because my boss wants to wipe his BlackBerry since his phone isn't storing so many phonecalls/messages anymore so wants to make sure his contacts are safe.

I've done some more searching and there're some references to "Desktop Manager". Is this "BlackBerry Manager"?

Not sure if there's a way to physically plug the BlackBerry to the BES server and sync the phone contacts to the BES, then MS Exchange?

Sounds like full device memory, it will start to remove old stuff. Remove some crap from the memory and you should be fine (or wipe it ).

DM is meant for use with a device, mainly by end users on their PCs. It let's them do funky stuff with their phone but a lot of orgs (like ours) don't use it. We activate over the air (OTA) so DM isn't required for our users and just creates more support calls . BM is the app you use on the BES to manage users etc.

You can connect the BB to the USB of the BES but for contact syncing like that DM is what you want, on his PC. But personally we rely on wireless. I would start by wiping his BB then performing an OTA EA (activation) and his BB will probably be a lot better for the wipe.
