Default Adult Filter on Blackberry?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I've got a Blackberry Curve and I really need to stop looking at porn on the thing. Is there a way I can get some kind of filter set up?

If not, I am prepared to delete the web browser, or do anything really, so long as emails are retained (I need them for work). I have a serious problem with compulsive viewing of porn, and it's a real pain in the arse having the stuff so readily available.

Do you have any ideas as to how to get rid of it? I am not particularly competent with tech stuff - I've tried deleting the web browser already but can't seem to.

Orange aren't able to do anything.

Help please! Tech answers only, not looking for spiritual advice/flaming, even though it's a weird issue.

Cheers

You could hide the web browser, but in an addiction, that probably won't help.

You can delete the "net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod" from your Java folder in the install directory of your OS, and then run App Loader to remove the cod file. You will get some odd errors on rebooting the BB, but overall, that would work.

Definately an IT policy that can be setup. My BB is a company device and comes loaded with a "corporate" browser and the generic BB browser. The corporate browser has the same filtering that our web access from work does. Any site that has the right triger words and you get the big red access denied circle. The generic browser will still view any site so I guess you'd have to have a filtered corporate browser and get rid of the generic browser to solve your problem. Or maybe a good friend a cattle prod and some aversion therapy? ;)

If the user is not on a BES, an IT Policy won't help much.

It is hard to determine with this statement.

This isn't spiritual advise, but a medical one. You should probably get to the root of why you are looking at porn. That'll help in the long run. Deleting the browser is only a short term solution.

I know people who are addicted to porn, but will not admit it (or admit that it's the reason people have broken off relationships from them).

I commend you for admiting you have a problem and are trying to avoid temptation.

Deleting the browser is probably the best way, as already suggested.

Good luck.

Thanks for the serious responses. The 'Crackberry' website i checked out had some poor bloke asking a similar question and getting flamed/psychobabbled for about 8 pages, very Youtube.

I forgot to mention that I'm BIS, not BES.

JSanders, could you walk me through this in slightly more detail? Where does one find the install directory? Is it simple to delete things from it?

Again, thanks for the serious responses

From your PC where you installed the operating system for your device.

Go to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files

Within there, find your java folder and remove the file J. Sanders mentioned.

Hook up your device to your desktop manager and choose the application loader and it will remove that file from your device.

I am not necessarily disagreeing with you but I suspect the user is merely seeking our technical assistance.

king wang, follow the instructions akosnitsky advised.

You will need to load the current OS that is on your device, to your PC first, if you have not already done so.

You're right. But I figure it can't hurt to remind him of other options.

I have not seen anything on the BIS-side that can filter content. As suggested, removing the browser on the Blackberry would be the best solution.

On different technical front:
Content filtering for your home Internet connection is much easier to find. I use OpenDNS to filter content on Small-to-Medium Business and Small Office/Home Office networks. It's one of the better products out there, it's easy to use and it's free.
