Default SMS or email preview while phone is locked

Please Login to Remove!

My phone is connected to my employer's BES server and there is a policy applied to my phone that locks the phone after 5 minutes of inactivity. Is there a policy setting that will allow me to see the home screen even when the phone is locked?

When new messages arrive I get alerted via my profile setting, but I cannot see who the message is from or the subject until I unlock my phone.

I downloaded a third party app that pops up new messages in a window (similar to the new call pop-up), but the third party app does not work when the phone is locked.

Thank you!!

You will not be able to see any content while the device is locked. To my knowledge there is no work around for this.

Hmm, that kind of makes me wonder if a theme could be created with messages showing on the locked screen. I'll have to tinker with that idea. Off to modify my theme again just for kicks.

Seems to defeat the purpose of the lock to me. I'd actually recommend using your profiles/exceptions and filters to alert you to only "important" messages if possible.

Let us know if your theme modification works. Myself and all of my co-works would pay for such a feature. Unlocking the BB everytime just to see if the message was worth logging in for is a huge waste of time. We don't care about reading the message while locked, but being able to see what is available on the home screen (from and subject) would be awesome.

showing "from" and "subject" really does not defeat the purpose of the lock. The lock is to keep others from viewing sensative data contained within the email and within the device.

It would be great if RIM could provide a bit more granularity to the BES policies so that non-secure functions could be changed while the device is locked. For instance, changing my profile from normal to quite should not require me to log into my phone, yet once the phone is locked the ONLY thing I can do is make/answer phone calls. Of course all this is for another forum post
