Default BES Folder Redirection

Please Login to Remove!

I have enabled folder redirection for our 1 BES user. I am able to expand and view all folders on the Blackberry device.

The issue is that email that is directed to the JUNKMAIL folder of her inbox is still showing up on the root INBOX on the blackberry. It does not redirect to the JUNKMAIL box folder.

I have restarted the BES and BES services as well as purged and recreated the user account and re-established enter. activation and is still not working. user gets a bit of junk mail and its a bit frustrating.

any clue as to why this is happening?

There is a setting on the BB, hide filed messages.

Did you enable reconciliation on the BES too?

I asked on another forum and got this response. Is this the case?

The problem is that Outlook is moving the message into the Junk folder once it is already in Outlook. If outlook was not open that "junk" message would stay in your inbox. Therefore it will be redirected to your BlackBerry. The only way around this would be to have your e-mail filtered before it hits your mailbox, such as an enterprise class solution. You may be able to fake your way around it by having hiding messages that have been filed. Technically that message will get sent to your mailbox and then as long as Outlook is open it will get marked as Junk and then hidden from your BlackBerry. However, I don't believe it will happen quick enough that the user doesn't realize its happening.

Hiding filed messages only works once they have been marked as read which I am guessing isn't the case with Junk.

I think there is a setting somewhere, probably a registry hack, that adds a delay so that the move has time to happen before the BES scans the mailbox.

When you redirected your folders, did you exclude the Junk folder? You should do so. You should also exclude the Deleted Items folder.

I included junkmail thinking it would redirect the junkmail to the junkmail folder rather than the inbox

This is true

OK, edit, it is most likely true. If it is a client side rule that moves Junk mail from inbox to junk folder, then if outlook is closed, the mail will show up in inbox to BES, and inbox on BB. Till outlook is opened and moves the messages. Then, make sure that "hide files messages" is on, and you should be OK.

The problem is not to do with redirection IF the mail is NOT being delivered to the target folder. If it initially hits inbox, it will route to BB. Even if then subsequently moved to a non-redirected folder, BB will "file" mail and not remove from handheld.

If, however, the Junk is filtered at a higher level, please post.

No. If you do not want JunkMail folder contents on BB, do not enable it for redirection. This means that even if you have mail delivered straight to JM folder as opposed to inbox in server mailfile, it will still redirect to BB.

Depending on your incoming junk mail flow, either this post or the post above is the answer. All rests on whether the junkmail is moved by a rule pre or post delivery to "inbox"
