Default Enterprise Activation Failure

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there

Please can someone help me before I pour lighter fluid over my server and burn it!!!

I am trying to run Blackberry Professional Software Express on an SBS2003 server. We are only a small company and I am the only Blackberry user (and new at that!).

I am convinced I have followed all of the guidance throughout the web and now have all the permissions correct for everything. The IEMSTest passes, the BBSrpTest passes, the Blackberry Router config works, my device is registered on the wireless network, my data plan is BES

BUT

the activation email from my device just sits in my email account and the server doesn't pick it up. I have GFI Mail Defense but this is not affecting the edp.dat email in any way, the subject header remains unchanged and the dat file isn't blocked.

Looking at the MAGT log file below it seems the server is seeing the mail and then just ignoring it (this is the part of the log relating to the activation email)

[40423] (01/29 09:39:41.071):{0x2A18} {MyEmail} Queuing new mail through notification (external). EntryId=799
[40724] (01/29 09:39:41.071):{0x19E8} {MyEmail} Get record key for this MAPI object, EntryId=799
[40435] (01/29 09:39:41.071):{0x19E8} {MyEmail} Queuing new mail through notification. EntryId=799. Msgs Pending 0
[40719] (01/29 09:39:41.071):{0x19E8} {MyEmail} GetFolderIDFromList No folder ID in list for EntryID
[30084] (01/29 09:39:41.071):{0x19E8} {MyEmail} Ignored - let other server/desktop do it, EntryId=799

Any suggestions very gratefully received.

Sorry, just noticed an extra bit in the log file. Could this provide more clues?

Have you checked the following RIM KB article

"Identifying and troubleshooting enterprise activation issues"
View Document

Still handled by desktop
This means that the device is set to be synced over the wire. To change this, go to the Enterprise activation screen on your device and hold the Alt key while typing sync .

On the config screen, set Wireless Sync to Yes.

Thanks for that but I can't get to the config screen. By Enterprise Activation screen do you mean where it asks for email, password etc.?

Yes, that is the screen where you put in e-mail address and password.

Hold the "alt" key and type

sync

(this will produce characters in the e-mail address field, but when you press the last of the four keys (the c) the Sync screen will appear.

Which BB device are you using, which OS on the device?

Seeing as you are getting the 'Still handled by desktop' message in your logs, try this:

1. Uninstall Desktop Manager
2. Remove your account from the BES, picking the option to remove BB info
from your mailbox
3. Readd your account and reactivate

That should get you working. Basically after you installed Desktop Manager, the info in your mailbox is telling BES that DM is responsible for email and to ignore it. Once the info is clear you should be fine.

When I do that it says PIM Synchronization is not active on this device but doesn't give me a menu.

Using 9000 (Bold) and the OS is v4.6.0.126

I installed Desktop Manager on a laptop and connected my blackberry to it but I've never synced it with anything. I haven't setup any email until I tried to do it with BES.

I'm going to remove BES and delete BESAdmin and try again, just to make sure.

One more thing, if I still can't get it to work and I have to activate it by cable will it then work wirelessly or will I have to sync by cable?

Thanks for your help.

If you EA via the cable everything still works wirelessly. I would try to leave DM out of the equation for now though.

You should not have to uninstall BES for this to work or delete your BESAdmin account. There is info stuck in your mailbox. You could go as far as downloading MFCMAPI and deleting the BBHandhledinfo folder, that is the folder causing the issue you are having.

One more thing, don't know if it's relevant but when I first installed the BES the Blackberry Router service failed to start with a device specific error 0.

I had to remove the service and re-add it with local authority and then change it to use the BESAdmin account and it worked.

How exactly did you "remove the service and re-add it with local authority"?

navigate to the blackberry installation folder \bypassrouter then run

blackberryrouter.exe -remove
blackberryrouter.exe -install -auto

this installs the service with local authority which I then changed to besadmin

That's fine. I don't think that this causes your problem.

I've downloaded MfcMapi and run it on my mailbox but I can't see the BBHandheldinfo folder anywhere, in fact I can't see any references to BB anywhere. Any ideas?

MFC MAPI can be tough to figure out the first few times.
You need to find the store and then the actual users and in their folder you will see BlackberryhandheldInfo

Session, log on and display store
new window pos up.
MDB, get mailbox table
Double click on user

Be carefull, there is no undelete!

I have removed the lighter fluid from the server and now poured it over myself. Shortly after typing this I shall light it....

After 3 days of looking at activation emails and swearing blind they have not been altered, for some reason, I have just noticed a [Scanned] tag on the end of the subject heading.

My head is now bleeding where I have been banging it against a wall.

Thank you for all the help and sorry for being such a retard. You may be pleased to know that my activation has now been successful.....
