Default Found a way to speed up DM sync

Please Login to Remove!

I have noticed that when I am syncing my BB to Yahoo using DM 4.6 (BIS) it is noticeably slower than my older version (4.3 I believe). This has been discussed in the forum. I have more recently noticed that if I am multitasking and happen to have the web browser open (Firefox) the whole Sync process is much much faster. So I did some testes today. I did three tests where I simply hit the sync button and DM did the compare of data (no updates) and it completed on average in 32.5 seconds. I also did another three tests where immediately after hitting the sync now button in DM I switched over to the browser and did and opened to my default search engine. On average the sync completed in the background in 14.5 seconds.

I am not sure why this is. One important caveat, when I had the browser open side by side with DM it was faster but not nearly as fast as when you maximize your browser and do something. I my last test…it completed in 11 seconds. I did not include that in the average.

Just an FYI

Wow I was skeptical, but using bluetooth I get an increase in speed, but much longer than your speeds. I let it sync in the background and even though it paused to prompt me to accept the changes, it still finished faster than when I synced right after while in the DM window.

So I tested a few more times since it had synced everything, and even alternating brower or DM it was always faster while I was in Firefox. Seems like the finishing step is a big part of the delay.

Wirelessly posted

I don't know anything about programming but it seems like whatever code handles the progress bars may be the culprit. As long as it doesn't have to display the progress, dm works much faster.
