So i went camping twice since i have owned mt storm and lets just say it doesn't work when its cold. the unlock button froze and i couldn't unlock it. then after finally getting in unlocked the touch screen didn't respond. it was about 8 degrees the first night and around 16 the second. i realized that i had to keep it in my sleeping bag otherwise i couldn't use it for about 20 min.

I am guessing that most phones would suffer a bit in such extreme temperatures. Anyone have any personal exprience with their devices working (or not working) in extended exposure to sub-freezing temperatures?

I didn't have an experience with extreme cold but I did have one with extreme hot. On my last and final all-expense trip to Iraq, due to my position, I was given this simply Moto flip phone. It was kind of nice because I was able to call home everyday but then again, the General could call me at anytime too. I didn't find myself out on the streets as much as I was in 2003 but I did notice after a few times that taking the phone out in 120+ degree heat was not a good idea. I think people need to remember that as devices continue to grow and we start seeing stuff like the BB Storm and BB Bold that these are no longer a simple suitcase style mobile phones that first came out in the late 80s and early 90s. These devices send a lot of time in R&D and an packed with a bunch of cool features which means there is a chance of having more sensitive equipment inside them. Its not good that they jacked his Storm up on a camping trip hopefully he has insurance or something so he can get it replaced.

Good news indeed-and now that I have read the thread through again, it may be that the touch screen components may not be as insulated from extreme temperatures as a standard keyboard would. Good to know.
