Question Document/spreadsheet synchronization

Please Login to Remove!

I have searched the forums and have not found an answer.
Please help!!! I have looked in a few spots but have been unable to find an answer. I used to have a palm treo. On my palm I could sync files with such ease. Just drag and drop into a folder on my desktop, just that simple. Next time I sync, anything in that folder synced. Now I have a blackberry storm. I can only sync media files. I set desktop manager to watch the files I want to sync, however it only watches for media files. I want to be able to sync word documents and spreadsheets, this is my primary reason for a data phone, how do I do this? Please help, right now I am extremely frustrated and considering returning to my palm! I also wanted to add that this seems ridiculous that an easy file sync is nowhere to be found on my BB. It seems that a phone created for business types would take this as the first and formost application after email!

The BlackBerry data storage for files can be made to appear like USB drives on your PC.

So you could try a freeware/shareware app like syncback from 2brightsparks.com

A device created for business people on the go should have a native program to handle document syncchronization. Getting third party software to do this seems ridiculous. How many various softwares am I gonna try before i find one that works or is suitable. There must be a way to sync more than media on the blackberry.

Then I guess you should have researched your purchase a little better. Because though you may think it "should" have it, it doesn't.

Whilst I can appreciate a little sarcastic "wit" the blackberry is then the single most greatest ruse put over on people since fission. Perhaps since "Jesus Christ". Why would anyone want a device simply for E-mail? same folks that used pagers I suppose.

Wow, this thread can get interesting....

But anyway there are third party utilities out there to sync the contents of a Media, check the aftermarket/media forum.

Haha. Maybe you need a 'Jesus' phone then.

Actually it's only recently with the 3rd party Documents to Go in a BlackBerry that users have been able to make use of any files on their BlackBerry except media files.

Users have, however, been able to open docs emailed to them through the functionality of the BIS or BES for some time.

You CAN do the drag and drop thing. But not auto-sync those files at the moment. Can't say I ever used that feature when I had a Palm, but others like you may have.

I'm not sure, but it's possible this would work (over the air too) if you used RIM BES software or their free Unite software. I'm not sure...

I bought the 9000 over the iphone because I was told that i could sync word documments with my laptop. This is apparently not the case - as I am finding out. This is a real basic application for any smart phone that claims to be geared for business. Let me know if you find a solution - then maybe i'll keep my bold - oterise, the iphone is looking pretty good right about now.

Without using 3rd party software to sync the contents of a media card (Which I posted a link to above), Documents To Go can not be sync'ed (Yet).. That person seems to have lied.

BlackBerry get it's reputation from being reliable, push-email, which other's are just expanding to, and as well as being secure. BlackBerry has also expanding into Unified messaging, intergration with PBX as well.. Sorry for the little mis-direction there.

It's your choice, but the link above for snyc is based on Microsoft's SyncToy. I dropped that for Syncback. YMMV. I dare say you could get either to work.

Why don't you just wait for Palm to show off the new OS, Nova, at CES2009? I'm sure it will be awesome for solitaire!

I believe the iPhone is the "Jesus Phone", at least according to the popular blogs. "Fission" sounds like something LG is about to release.

Why on Earth would you make such a major purchase based on hearsay? Don't you think it would have been prudent to check that information out? Even if you heard it right from a carrier CSR, I'd still check it out and never take anything like that for fact.
