Will be travelling in Asia for 3 weeks over the Christmas and New Year period. Here's my question - are there any prepaid SIM cards out there that support Blackberry service? I know that lots of prepaid SIM cards all support voice but you obviously can't get your email pushed. Any more comprehensive cards out there?

I just called AT&T and if I went with them, I'd have to buy a lot of additional pay as you go data ($50 for 50 MB I think), plus pay their outrageous international roaming voice charges. Not really an option for a 3 week trip!

I should add that my BB is unlocked so swapping SIM cards won't be an issue.

I havnt used them personally but they seem to be one of the only places that will rent you just a SIM with BB service.

I had looked at that thread. Unfortunately there was no info about if there were such prepaid SIM cards available for the BB or not.

Thanks for the link. Will definitely use next time I'm in Europe. But these guys don't have anything for Asia, and that's where I'm going for 3 weeks. If anyone knows of a similar service for Asia, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You're obviously not reading my post - I said I was going to ASIA. Hello, are you aware that Asia is a separate geographic region from Europe? And that callineurope DOESN'T offer any services for Asian countries? If you don't know basic geography, that's your problem.

Thanks! I checked out both the links. Unfortunately, these guys don't appear to offer pre-paid data, only voice. A friend also sent me a link to Telestial this morning (International Cell Phones, World Phones, SIM Cards, Satellite Phones) and those guys do offer pre-paid international data and voice in lots of countries. Unfortunately, their rates for data are crazy - in the three countries I'm going to, cost per MB ranges from $15 to $25! At this rate, AT&T's pricing (global data add on of 50MB for $59.99, not $50 as I had posted earlier) isn't sounding so bad! However, if I used AT&T, I'd also be stuck using their expensive voice rates. I may just forgo data and stick to a cheap pre-paid voice card. Just seems like data is very expensive to get right now, hopefully that will change soon.

PM me there is a way. It's a little convoluted, but may offer some relief for your voice issues. Data, maybe not. I'm in Asia now, and I use this all the time.

We never found a solution for data. Voice is easy, just avoid the tourist traps near the hotels and buy the local pre-paid sims at the "real" local rate.

I would like to know of you find a solution for data.

You may need to just have another phone with a local SIM card and use the Rebtel or Stana Card services to avoid expensive roaming/international call charges for voice, while keeping BB for email services only. Although you have to have two phones, you get the best of both in that way.

That is generally what we do. We unlock a second phone (RAZR, iPhone, Treo, Nokia, etc) then buy pre-paid SIMs outside of the hotel. We find the ones in or near the hotel to be priced higher (tourist traps?). It would be very convenient if we could find prepaid SIMs that also had local BB data.
