Default 7290 Software (3.8) on 7280?? Is it possible?

Please Login to Remove!

Blackberry has the 7290 on the drop-down for software with this version:

Package Version: 3.8.0.161
Consisting of:
Applications: 3.8.0.139
Software Platform: 1.8.0.99

I tried downloading it and installed it on the PC but Desktop Manager is not recognizing it as a valid upgrade. I deleted the vendor.xml but that didn't help, so I even deleted the device.xml but still no dice.

Anybody know if and how you can get this to install on the 7280? I don't understand why you couldn't given the only difference between the two devices is the different screen and bluetooth.

7290 software is available here: https://www.blackberry.com/SoftwareD...ient=Rc4cZBaBN

Great let me know if you get this to work. Somebody with a 7290 mentioned they added some features like being able to search the calendar, notes, to-dos, etc among other things. can't see why that would't work on a 7280 either.

Is the solution copying the 7200 GPRS bin file over to the new software an renaming it 7290??

Downgrading from 4.0 right now... it allowed the downgrade to 3.8 software on my 7210. Now lets see if it will restore and boot correctly unlike the 7100 3.8 software...

Tried playing around with the files, still doesn't recognize the software and allow me to upgrade. Did you modify something to get it to recognize?

A fatal error has occurred while updating your handheld's software. Please try again.

Welp... with the 3.7.1.41 rim7200g.bin and the 4.0.0.100 rim7200g.bin files it crashes both times.

With 3.7 I get 527 error.

With 4.0 I get JVM 523 error.

That's with the 3.8 system software. Whoever originally suggested moving the .bin files, wanna speak up and provide some more insight as to how you got this to work for yours?

End of the day - I don't think you will be able to get the 7290 3.8 code working on any other BlackBerry. Hack away.

Well I hope they will release for the 7280. Is it not the same device as the 7290 just with out the Bluetooth.
