Default Removing IT policy

Please Login to Remove!

hello all,
i am trying to remove an it policy and i got this (below) off of crackberry. but it says to wipe the phone in options, security, wipe but i don't have that.

i upgraded my os to 4.5 but it doesn't have wipe...

did anyone ever remove an it policy? any help would be greatly appreciated!

"Procedure
Step 1 Ensure the Blackberry Desktop Manager is installed using Blackberry Internet Service, and not Blackberry Enterprise Server. If you are unsure, it would probably be a good idea to uninstall the Desktop Manager and start again.

If you don't have the CD that came with your Blackberry, the Software can be downloaded here.

Step 2 Download the file policy.bin and save it in your Blackberry installation directory (C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry).
Step 3 Wipe your Blackberry, creating a backup if necessary. Select Options/Security/Wipe on the Device.

If this option is unavailable, you may have to install the latest software on your Blackberry. You need to Download and install the latest Desktop Manger Software, then the latest Handheld Software. Connect your device, open the Desktop Manager, select Application Loader, and follow the prompts.

Step 4 Close the Desktop Manager if it is open.
Step 5 From the Windows Start Menu select Run..., and at the prompt type regedit. In the tree on the left hand side, navigate to:

HKEY_Current_Users\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\PolicyManager

Right-Click the Policy Manager Folder and select New/String Value. Name the value Path. Now, Double-Click the Path Subkey and set Value Data to:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\policy.bin
Step 6 Open the Desktop Manager.
Step 7 Connect the Device.

Verification
Once complete, the Options/Security screen on your Blackberry should not contain references to an IT Policy, you should now be able to change all settings (including password prompts), and install Third Party Applications.

I've used this on my 8700g, & my 8100 Pearl, and it works!"

Many people have used this process - Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ - documented in our FAQ section. Give that a shot.

If you get the latest version of JL_Cmder (v1.9.0), it has the "resettofactory" option which works on all BlackBerries running OS 4.5 or higher. This is essentially the Wipe command available on the device (Options --> Security Options --> General Settings, [Menu] Wipe Handheld), but will also reset any IT Policy settings back to their defaults and unlock them.

thanks for giving me the steps to wipe out.

just to let others know, i did a wipe out and used the removing instructions above. it did the job...somewhat. i can use what i wanted to use so i did get rid of some of the it policy. BUT, the red pad lock is still on my firewall.

so it might not have worked fully...

Which method did you use? Did you use Method 1 or Method 2? Method 2 will leave a blank IT policy in place. Method 1 wipes the policy completely. If you did both, then you will end up with the results of Method 2--a locked firewall. If you did Method 2, go back and remove the policy.bin from your computer and remove the registry entry you made. Then go back and do Method 1 again. That should rid you of IT policy.
