Default Set password

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I am new BES admin and I was told to change the password for devices of ex-employees. I have checked to make sure that the IT policy does not have content protection enabled but am not able to change the password. The devices are model 8700c.

I have gotten passwords from the former users and checked to see if content protection was preventing the password change but that feature was not enabled on the phones.

Would anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks.

Why are you changing passwords on the devices? If they're ex-employees then they shouldn't even be on the BES anymore. If they're not connected to the BES, you can't change the passwords. If you're redeploying the units (ie you have them), then simply wipe them.

The password is just for locking the device out - changing it would only be required if the unit was stolen or some other similar circumstance.

Our HR dept would like to review all devices before they are reissued.

So, just to be clear, the devices were being used by people who used to work there. The people left the company, but the devices stayed behind, and their accounts are still active on the BES, correct?

Are the cell lines themselves still active, or have those been suspended/cancelled?

Yes that is correct. Their BES accounts and lines are still active. I can push the IT policy but when I set the password it always comes back with status - error.

What version of BES are you using, and what environment (Exchange, etc)?

Here's one thing I found, not sure if it applies:

The set password request was not successfully queued

We have Exchange 2003 (6.5.7226.0) on Windows Server 2003 and the BES is 4.0.7.11.

I have seen that article but it does not apply to this situation.
