Got my curve today.
First impressions:
Feels real plasticky.
The keyboard backlight makesssss the keys looks non-uniform: some look white and some look gey in backlight.
The trackball feels shoddy.
Its annoying that there is no hard key to change the screen brightness.

It may get the job done, but its not aesthetically pleasiing

Also, the reference guide included is woefully inadequate. I was lost on 1)how to press # and * keys in calls 2)Change screen brightness 3)Change rigntone volume (all answers found by searching this forum).

And seeing that RIM has largest market share, it is quite disappointing.

How much would it cost RIM to increase the phone quality ? It cant be that much.
No wonder iphone has so many fanboys.

I got it from Tmobile direct so I belive its authentic
I also belive its brand new (or at least thats how it was sold).

I was the most disappointed in the trackball.

Is it possible to have a thinkpad like ultranav pointing stick for navigation in cellphones ? That would be awesome.

I liked the build quality on my Pearl, and the curve is even better.

dude if u dont like it then return it and get something else but this is the best phone out there...maybe you should have waited for the bold since that wont feel as "plasticky" as u described although it still has the trackball (which I really like btw)

Hmmm, I surprised by that...I think the Curve feels like a quality product, so if you're not happy get something else. That said, the BB in general is awesome.

Everyone has a different opinion.

If RIM spent $1 more on every blackberry they made, how much would that cost them? Hint: They sell millions of blackberrys per year. I'm happy with the build quality of my BB. It's not perfect in every way, but I'd call it quality for real life.

For rugged and solid build you could not beat the 75xx series. I used a 7520 for three years and it still looked like brand new. From the 87xx series and on they went to like a different case supplier as everything became painted and had glossy finishes. I guess it was public demand but these painted and glossy surfaces do not hold up well.

The 75xx plastic was the same color all the way thru so if you scratched it, you could not even see it was scratched! They were also solid as a rock with no flexing keyboards and dust prior to the 87xx series was unheard of.

Interesting opinions and thread.

Since the Curve 8330 is my first Blackberry I have nothing to compare it to other then my flip cell phones over the last few years, (well since 1985 actually).

I find the Curve to have a light but tight feel. Fit and finish is high but not the best I've ever seen. The keys are as I would expect and though the paint on the keys of this unit is not entirely uniform, it's not objectionable. I do have some concern about the latch since I've seen one break and also the rear cover which is not as sturdy as I would have guessed. I expect it will scratch too and may have to be replaced down the road.

But all in all, it seems to be well made; durable enough for everyday use and once set up properly, (was a problem for me) functions fine. At the size of the Curve, you can only expect so much. To be field use quality like a contractor might use, it would have to be bigger I suspect.

Forgot to add, I did drop another one twice and couldn't find a single mark on it. (That wasn't what broke the latch.)

I just got a refurb from rogers and the trackball did feel weird at first, but its been a week and its just like my other curve PERRRRFECT !!! 10/10

I actually really love my blackberry and I think the quality it great. I've it since december. The only thing is sometimes It becomes slow but I'll just take the battery out and pop it back in and it'll go back to normal. Also, does anyone know about the email functions? When I email someone, it'll send me the email I just sent to my inbox and that get's kinda annoying. I dunno exactly how to get rid of that. I didn't wanna change the settings until I was SURE on how to do it because if I mess something up, for sure I'm not gonna remember exactly what I changed. TIA!

Aside from the obvious fact that the thing is largely made of plastic, I can't say it's ever felt cheap, or "plasticky". There will never be a consumer device that will appeal to everyone's tastes, but it sounds like you're blaming the manufacturer when you should really be questioning the amount of time you spent in actual hands-on research before buying the phone.

My 8310's build quality is just fine. Don't know why you're having issues with your 8320. Have you checked out other 8320's before assuming that they're all the same?

People have been complaining about the "feel" of BB's since the first 8700's rolled off the line. It's hard for me to take these statements seriously -- especially now that everyone seems to tout how "rock solid" the 8700's are...
