Default Foldered Email Moving Back To Inbox

Please Login to Remove!

Hello.

(OL2K3 / EX03SP2 / BBES4.0.7.8)

I have an end user who had her 8703e powered-off for two months. She turned it on and had all over her email that she put into folders moved back into her Inbox folder.

Her device and BBES settings is for 'mailbox wins' if there is any conflict; however.

I've asked RIM support. The only suggestion they had was the "database became corrupt" and a security wipe was the only way to cleans the database and then to reprovision.

Old device OS version: 4.1.0.344
New device OS version: 4.2.1.195

Anyone have other thoughts on this?

Default Bug With Older BBD OS

All,

When I first contacted RIM for support, they claimed the "database" on the BlackBerry device (BBD) was corrupted. When this happens, the BBD reverts back to default and puts all emails into the Inbox.

So, I upgraded her BBD's OS version and told her to never turn off her device again. (what happens if she has to travel???)

As it turns out she had to travel and our Service Desk provisioned her an international BBD. After disassociating her old BBD with our BBES, the Cingular BBD was provisioned for her and the exact same thing happened again: emails moved from her folders to her mailbox's Inbox.

I contacted RIM again for assistance and found out the following...

If your BBD has an "older" OS version and is off for more than four hours, when you turn it on again, there is a chance emails that were put into folders will move back into the inbox.

A RIM tech found this on their internal KB. He was not able to provide a link or give any more details. Of course, I could not find any of this out on the internet.

Known bad version: 4.1.0.344 on Verizon

This international BBD was from our loaner pool and hasn't been on for months, too. What is really weird is the loaner BBD wasn't provisioned for anyone when it was checked out of the pool.

The "bad" version is some version of 4.1 for BBD.

The resolution:

- upgrade the BBD's OS version to 4.2 or higher, or
- upgrade BBES to 4.0.7 MR2 or better, or
- upgrade BBES to 4.1.5 or better

Why upgrading BBES to a certain version "fixes" the problem, I'm not sure.

And there it is, the first public posting of this ghost of a problem.

It is all about upgrading and forgetting the old software.
They dont want to support all the different old stuff.

Lots of software companies are doing this. Try to set up an old print server from win 95 days, I had to this week. Lucky for me VM let me get it done.
